Thornton May on creating brilliant leaders in information technology

David Spark, reporting from CIO Boot Camp at Interop in Las Vegas.

I caught up with the always engaging Thornton May, Futurist and moderator for the CIO Boot Camp. I asked him about his greatest realizations from CIO Boot Camp.

He boiled it down to three issues:

  1. There are truly brilliant leaders in information technology and they're in short demand.
  2. The quality of the wanna be CIOs in the crowd was outstanding.
  3. Great organizations are using this recession as an opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competitors.

NOTE: Thornton does not turn into a Smurf partway through the interview. We were standing right by the projection screen and all of a sudden the screen went blue, and so did Thornton. :)
